Hi there!

It's great to be back with you again.
I'm sorry I got deleted from the old WordPress site, but I'm thrilled I was able to set this Weebly account up... and all by my little old self! Uh - huh! I feel like strutting around and telling everyone (who doesn't run when they see me coming) ~ I DID IT!! ~
I've tried to explain about how crazy/difficult this tech world is now - about how many ways a person can screw up and most of my friends agree, appear solicitous,
but don't REALLY get it.
Finally, I broke down and decided to use Gemini - the little AI fella that appears on my computer's page whenever I seem to get into difficulties
Okay - he's always there. :-)
I'm often the first to complain about the changes in our new world of AI. Never thought I'd make use of it at all. But I've gotta admit to breaking down, stopping my irrelevant objections, and trying a few things.
For instance - turns out, I can now just tell my Alexa what to add to my shopping lists (I've set up three different ones), and when I go to the stores, there's my list on my phone.
Bingo!
Love that.
Also, I often find myself asking my blasted phone all kinds of questions when I don't know the answers, and when it tells me it doesn't know either, whoa!!
I give the inanimate object a piece of my mind.
Ha! Now isn't that me conforming to the inevitable.
Best of all, though I never use ChatGPT to write any of my books,
I do turn to it instead of my Thesaurus and have to admit - it does have it's uses.
So... I guess since we're stuck with this progress, might as well learn how to make the best use of what we can't change.

~Till next time...

How far we’ve come in our book-writing business….

Back in the good old days, we’d entertain folks with stories we spent months and sometimes years to perfect.
As a struggling author hoping to break out with my popular series, Undercover FBI, I was pretty much willing to go to any lengths to get my books in the hands of those readers who like fast-action, character driven, romantic suspense.

In 2021, I spent vast amounts of money to get the first ten books of my series narrated by New York actors looking for extra work. (Mimi Barbour ACX)

Because I hated the thought of those artists not getting paid – from sharing the sales of the audiobooks that I had no idea would sell in any large numbers – I decided to pay them outright for their narrations. Sad to say, each book cost me at close to and even over the $1k amount. And because my work is in competition with many hundreds of thousands of authors like me, I never came close to earning back much of that money. Yet, according to everyone around me, it was the smart step to take as the audio book would likely be the next best format for reading.

Was it?
Maybe.
For some.

It never became that for my work and for many others who’d put in the effort, paid the price, and prayed those audiobooks would bring in another stream of royalties.

Move forward to today’s world where AI narrators are taking over those jobs at such a low price, that authors are forced to conform if they want to be in competition with those who have embraced this new frontier. When they talk about the wild west, I think we're living ours this moment. Even if you have no talent, can't spin a yarn, and don't have the staying power of a gnat, you can still produce a book and have it formatted into an audio version.

Is it good? Hmm - don't know. All I know is that it's here to stay.
